The Children’s and Adolescent Cancer Unit in Leeds is one of the largest in the country
In 2010, the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust will be centralising all children’s services, with the exception of radiotherapy, at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI). Our new in-patients clinic at LGI will boast eight beds for teenagers, 16 beds for children and a four-bedded bone marrow transplant unit. We are determined that the New Unit will offer even better services and support to children and teenagers living with cancer in Yorkshire and their families.

We’re going to be developing a Candlelighters garden area with a large purpose-built conservatory that can be used all-year-round as an additional play area and space to unwind. In addition, we hope to install illuminated and interactive displays and internet access to each bed so that the children can keep up with their schoolwork and stay in touch with their friends and family.
The single rooms will be fitted with an ensuite WC and wash basin and the four bedded bays will have an ensuite wet area. To make the most of the space available we’re planning to install fitted wardrobes and comfortable fold away beds for parents. In addition, what’s great about the move is that at LGI the outpatient and inpatient facilities will be in the same building, making it easier for patients to move between the clinic and ward.
